Overview of the Danish authorities' measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

New measures against COVID-19 in Greater Copenhagen

COVID-19 infection rates are particularly high in several municipalities in Greater Copenhagen. Consequently, the Government steps up efforts in 17 municipalities by introducing new measures. The new measures are applicable from 7 December until at least 2 January 2021.

Surge in infections calls for new restrictions

23 October 2020 the Danish Government decided to introduce a series of new restrictions effective from 26 October 2020 until 2 January 2021. The new restrictions include the requirement to wear face masks in retail shops and to some extent at educational institutions as from 29 October 2020. Restrictions was introduced on the sale of alcohol in supermarkets and kiosks after 22.00 (10pm), and everybody was encouraged to limit the number of social contacts.


In addition, border control was intensified. Moreover, the ban on gatherings was lowered to a maximum of 10 people except from funerals at which 50 people are allowed. These restrictions will be effective until the end of 13 December 2020.
